Adam Williams Headmaster, Lord Wandsworth College


After formative years growing up on the western coastal edge of Australia, Adam Williams moved to the UK over 30 years ago. He attended Bradfield College and read Geography at Durham University before starting a career in Sales and Marketing. Quickly realising that education was his true vocation he moved into the educational sector, teaching Geography and coaching sport at Bradfield College before becoming Head of Department there. He then moved on to Oakham School, running one of the largest Geography departments in the UK and coaching several cricket and golf teams to national success. Nine years as a Housemaster followed, before a move to The Glasgow Academy as Deputy Rector for three years.

He is at his happiest on a windswept links with a 2 iron in hand or climbing mountains with his family. Scotland was a wonderful experience with his wife and three children, though the opportunity to take on the Headship at Lord Wandsworth College in September 2015 was a call back to warmer and drier climes. Adam has a passion for Pupil Voice, Character Education, the all-round nature of schools, and in ensuring leadership for all.

Dr Mike Milner, Head of Senior School, Reddam House


Dr Mike Milner is the current Head of Senior School at Reddam House school. A PH.D. graduate from Oxford University, He has previously been the Executive Principal of Wellington Academy and Deputy Head (Academic) of Wellington College under Sir Antony Seldon.

Beccy Johnson, Director of Admissions & Marketing Notre Dame School, Cobham

Beccy has had anything but a conventional career, although her current position as Director of Admissions and Marketing curiously takes her full circle: her first graduate job back in 1986 was in an advertising and PR agency. Experience as a Police Operational Researcher, Government Statistician, Management Consultant, e-business Developer and Garden Designer (whilst her girls were young) followed. Each role led organically, if not always obviously, to the next, and each move was driven by a craving to be challenged, a yearning to be creative and, most importantly, a determination to make a positive difference in people’s lives. In 2015, Data Manager maternity cover first brought Beccy to Notre Dame School. The warm, vibrant and authentic school quickly captured her heart, and serendipitously it soon offered up a new and exciting path.

Jayne Burton, Marketing Director of Marketing & Admissions, Chigwell School

Jayne Burton is currently Director of Marketing and Admissions at Chigwell School, a leading co-education independent School for ages 4 – 18 with a history dating back almost 400 years.

Jayne brings 16 years of experience in the corporate sector to Chigwell.

Formerly Head of Consumer Marketing at the British Medical Journal, and with a marketing career spanning a variety of industries including publishing, online learning, and the events sector, Jayne brings a fresh perspective to the newly created role for the School.

Carrie Bennett, Director of Marketing & Communications, Wolverhampton Grammar School

Carrie has worked in senior marketing and communications positions in Higher Education, the NHS and Local Government for over twenty years and was part of the team awarded Senior Leadership Team of the Year by the Times Education Supplement in 2018.

She is known for building successful teams and ensuring marketing an organisation becomes everyone’s responsibility.

Carrie leads a team at Wolverhampton Grammar School responsible for admissions, marketing, development and front of house and has completely overhauled the school’s approach to student recruitment and stakeholder engagement.

School numbers have seen year on year growth since her recruitment in 2014.

Laura Walsh, Marketing & Communications Manager, Lambrook School

Laura specialises in marketing through user experience and communication. She has been at Lambrook School for just over two years, with responsibility for internal and external communication and the marketing of the School, as well as for Alumni Relations and Development.

Before working for Lambrook, Laura worked for Reading University and the University of Nottingham in PR and External Affairs, promoting these institutions and ensuring a strong brand reputation.

Laura started her career working for a PR and Events Agency, where she looked after global clients such as BMW, JCB and Diageo, running their product launches, incentives and events.

Sarah Monaghan Director of Connected Copy

Sarah Monaghan is the Director of Connected Copy (www.connectedcopy.co.uk) and mum to twin girls aged 8 attending a Sussex prep school.

A former journalist who worked for the BBC, she now runs her own marketing strategy and copywriting consultancy.

A media professional and magazine editor with 15+ years’ experience, she has worked across sectors including education, health, pharma, property law, accounting, finance and management consultancy in both B2B and B2C in the UK and EMEA.

The hard skills of journalism underpin her work and the understanding that persuasion and conversion go hand-in-hand. She brings a blend of tech know-how and creativity to the table in brand strategy, sales funnel expertise, social media, video storytelling and on-page SEO.

 
 

Harriet Leith, Marketing Officer (Design, Web & Multimedia), Wolverhampton Grammar School

 

Since graduating from the University of Wolverhampton, Harriet has developed a strong foundation of marketing knowledge within the private and education sectors. Stretching across Higher and Further Education, and now the Independent schools market Harriet has experienced a range of regional recruitment challenges.

Harriet is a passionate graphic designer and digital marketer and joined Wolverhampton Grammar School in July 2018.

Harriet recently oversaw the redevelopment of the School’s website and brand identity, which helped lead on to the largest Year 7 intake.

Harriet is fully aware of the ever-changing design trends and spotted a gap in the market on how to promote the School’s key unique selling points.

Last year saw Wolverhampton Grammar School move away from their "traditional” tried and trusted printed student recruitment techniques, to dynamic digital content. From animated GIFs and infographics across all social media platforms, to CGI photography and a high definition video which showcases how the School is at the forefront of digital technology. These were all new and exciting ways which proved successful, but a new year poses new challenges and ideas.

Alta Justus, Digital Marketing Education Specialist, The Virtual Marketer

An equally creative and analytical Digital Marketing Consultant with over 18 years education and commercial marketing experience, Alta is passionate about helping schools succeed in the digital arena.

From Google Analytics, through to SEO, PPC and Social Media marketing, she has made a point of becoming – and remaining – an expert in the digital areas that have the biggest impact on a school’s brand recognition and Admissions numbers.

In addition to delivering results focused strategies for schools, Alta is keen to share her expertise and has delivered over a hundred webinars, workshops and masterclasses, all designed to empower the school marketer. Her practical sessions sieve through the digital noise to ensure participants always walk away with something of value to add to their own marketing repertoire.

Sally Alexander, Managing Director of Ambleglow

As Managing Director of Ambleglow, Sally has taken the agency from generalist to education marketing specialist over the last three years, delivering design, digital and social solutions for a number of state and independent schools across the UK. Sally has also run major commercial accounts such as Channel 4, SAGA, and Viacom International Media Networks and is a Co-opted Governor for Warfield Primary School, giving her a unique insight into the challenges faced within education.

Carolyn Reed and Katie Cardona, Reed Brand Communication


Carolyn has a design and marketing background in FMCG and retail/service brands. Katie has been working with Reed since she met through Carolyn through her role as Marketing Governor at Woldingham School.

They have been advising schools and colleges on their marketing strategy and brand communications for the last 10 years and are passionate about using insight to inform strategic decision making.

Carolyn is a member of the MRS, RSA and an awarded member of D&AD. Katie is a member of MRS, RSA and Chair of Governors at Rydes Hill Prep School and Nursery.

Each year Reed undertake a major research project relating to an aspect of schools’ marketing. Last year their project on Gen Z, generated an enormous amount of interest.

Luke Hay is a UK-based ‘User Experience’ (UX) Consultant working in online communications since the 1990s. Author of "Researching UX: Analytics", a book about taking an 'analytics first' approach to UX projects, Luke prides himself on taking a 'user-centric', analytical approach to design, development and optimisation of websites and apps.

For the last 8 years Luke has delivered training seminars and consultancy for EMCdigital and Click-Recruit-Enrol to staff from Schools, Colleges and Universities on key topics including Analytics, Online Reputation Management, Website Improvement and User Experience (UX).

Luke’s career experience includes time working as a ‘Website & Email Manager’ for Sussex Enterprise and Wired Sussex, and providing Analytics & UX consultancy to clients of all sizes in Europe, the Middle East and Australia for the agencies Fresh Egg and No Pork Pies.

The former Director of Marketing & Careers for Worth School and Enterprise Project Manager at the University of Surrey, Matthew has worked in various sectors (commercial, FCMG, travel, retail etc) over the last 25 years while maintaining a long-term specialist interest in the Education sector and specifically Private UK & International Schools & Colleges as the Programme Director for EMCdigital and Managing Director of Click-Recruit-Enrol.com (OMTAC Ltd).

Matthew speaks, trains and consults in a wide range of related subjects including digital Strategy, Online Advertising, Search Engine Optimisation, Website Development, Mobile Marketing, Social Media, Multimedia, Online Reputation Management and Analytics.

Ashley Kirk, Faria Education Group


Ashley has worked with Faria Education Group for over 3 years, specifically helping schools to assess Faria's paperless admissions software solution, OpenApply.

Ashley has visited hundreds of independent and international schools around Europe, the Middle East and Africa, giving him unique insight in to how the role of Admissions - and the challenges the Admissions department face - can differ quite drastically from school to school, across different countries, cultures, faiths, and beyond.
